WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the United States’ intention to join the Joint Declaration on the Advancement of Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment Within Trade for the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference:

“Our trade policy is a reflection of our values and ambitions - it is a tool we can use to support domestic prosperity and encourage advancements internationally that benefit all workers. Ensuring that women and girls everywhere can access all the opportunities open to men and boys is fundamental to promoting economic equity. I applaud Ambassador Tai, President Biden, and Vice President Harris for their decision to join this meaningful WTO declaration that will help break down barriers to women’s economic empowerment."
