House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Chairman Mike Bost has expressed support for the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) plan to reorganize and restructure parts of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The announcement came after VA Secretary Doug Collins revealed details about the proposed changes.
Chairman Bost stated, “I support the intent of Secretary Collins’ plan to break new ground and restructure the agency to meet the needs of today and tomorrow’s veterans, their families, and their survivors. Change can be a good thing. Veterans and their families gave us a clear mandate last November that business as usual is not cutting it and we must cut through the bureaucracy, remove the red tape, and push VA forward. As Chairman that is my number one responsibility, and it’s why I am leading the Committee’s reauthorization efforts to broadly improve VA programs – many of which have not been properly reauthorized in 30 years,” said Chairman Bost. “Congress looks forward to working with my friend, Secretary Collins, and the entire Trump administration in the coming weeks and months to learn more about the implementation of this plan to ensure it does one thing: benefit veterans.”
The committee will continue its work on reauthorizing various VA programs that have not seen significant updates in decades. The focus remains on reducing bureaucracy within the department while ensuring improvements serve veterans effectively.
