Foxx Readout on @EdLaborGOP’s Telehealth Roundtable

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Education and Labor on May 12. It is reproduced in full below.

Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) hosted a roundtable discussion on the importance of telehealth. Members heard from the Alliance for Connected Care and the American Benefits Counsel.

Following the meeting, Republican Leader Foxx said: “The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically changed the way Americans access remote care. Over the past two years, employers providing health care benefits to their employees have discovered that increased access to telemedicine lowers the costs of care, increases access to providers, and helps to address America’s mental health needs, especially in rural areas.

“Employers who have been leading the way in the use of telemedicine have found that using telehealth can decrease the cost of doctor visits by as much as 35 percent per visit as well as increase their employees’ satisfaction by helping to save costs in gas and time. This is a win for both employers and employees.

“Telehealth has been a lifeline for many Americans during the pandemic; it would be a shame to see patients lose this valuable resource just because we are no longer in a public health emergency. The more regulations we can loosen on telehealth, while keeping patients safe, the better."
