Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack commented on President Joe Biden's intent to nominate Stacey Dean as under secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services.
His comments were shared in a May 13 USDA news release in which Vilsack referred to Dean's dedication "to advancing food and nutrition security for all Americans." Dean "is exceptionally well suited" for the role, Vilsack said.
"Stacy has an incredible depth of knowledge and experience in the field of food and nutrition, and I am thrilled at the prospect of her continuing to shape the nation's food and nutrition policy as the under secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services," Vilsack said in the release.
Vilsack also referred to Dean's time before joining USDA, following her appointment as deputy under secretary by Biden, including her time as vice president for Food Assistance Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. During her time at the center, Dean and her team "reported on the impacts of federal nutrition programs and developed policies to improve them," Vilsack said. She also spent time as a budget analyst with the Office of Management and Budget "where she worked on policy development, regulatory and legislative review and budgetary process and execution for a variety of income support programs," Vilsack said.
"Stacy has sought to increase nutrition assistance for struggling Americans and tackle barriers that have been long engrained into assistance programs," Vilsack said in the release.
