Construction activity begins at Lake Sakakawea

The North Dakota State Water Commission, in partnership with the Bureau of Reclamation, have begun construction activities at Beulah Bay Recreation Area and Renner Bay on Lake Sakakawea. This phase of construction will work on the supplementary raw water intake for the Southwest Water Pipeline Project and will continue through November 2022. The boat ramp will remain open for recreational use throughout this process, but the public is advised to avoid the immediate working area for safety reasons.

Two barges and other associated equipment will be launched from the Beulah Bay public boat ramp. A crane and several semi-trailer trucks will be positioned and used at the boat ramp for off-loading and on-loading of this equipment. The barge assembly at the boat ramp area is expected to be completed by May 13, 2022, after which truck traffic will be dramatically reduced. Once the equipment is launched it will be positioned in Renner Bay for the duration of the project. The work areas within Renner Bay will be marked with buoys and be lighted to prevent navigation hazards. Barges will periodically return to the ramp area for servicing and to load and unload equipment as the work progresses. Upon completion of the over water work, the boat ramp area will again be used to load equipment and demobilize the barges.

Project staff will be present to observe the work. For questions, please call the Southwest Pipeline Project Manager, Sindhuja S.Pillai-Grinolds, at 701-328-4954.
