Washington, DC - Congressman Howard L. Berman, Ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement on Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s handing out of indictments and arrest warrants for those believed to have been involved in the murder of Rafik al-Hariri.
“I applaud the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s issuing of indictments against four individuals suspected of perpetrating the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. The Special Tribunal overcame many obstacles, including threats of violence, to reach this point. I hope the arrest and trial of these suspects occur as soon as possible so that Lebanon may find justice, to put an end to the culture of impunity from which it has long suffered, and move towards a more peaceful future. I stand ready to do whatever I can to help ensure that result.".
