Statement by U.S. Rep. Howard Berman on the Bus Bombing in Bulgaria of Israeli Citizens

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on July 18, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - Congressman Howard L. Berman, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the bus bombing in Bulgaria targeting Israeli citizens.

“I strongly condemn the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack against innocent Israeli tourists in Bulgaria. While the attack is still being investigated by Bulgarian authorities, what is now known suggests all the hallmarks of an Iranian operation. Iran has been carrying out attacks on Israeli civilians all over the globe - at least a half-dozen over the past year - in places from Thailand to Turkey. I also can’t help but note that this attack in Bulgaria occurs on the anniversary of one of Iran’s most barbaric operations, the 1994 attack on the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that killed 85 people. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the victims and their loved ones."
