Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on this morning’s report that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Inspector General withheld information from audit reports submitted to Congress.
“I am concerned by this morning’s report that the USAID Inspector General withheld information from audit reports submitted to Congress. Inspectors General are required by law to keep Congress ‘fully and currently informed’ about fraud and other serious problems, abuses, and deficiencies at their respective agencies. Any violation of this mandate is unacceptable. The Foreign Affairs Committee is working with the Office of the Inspector General to get to the bottom of this matter.
“In the meantime, the President and Senate should act swiftly to nominate and confirm a permanent Inspector General at USAID. USAID has lacked a top cop on the beat for 1104 days.".
