Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on Tunisia’s presidential election.
“I would like to congratulate the Tunisian people on their successful and fair presidential election. This election is an important step in Tunisia’s democratic progress. Not only have Tunisians demonstrated their freedom to determine their government, they have also set an example of a stable and peaceful political transition in their troubled region. Now it is critical that the new government immediately begin working with the new parliament to bring about much-needed institutional reforms. It is also important that the international community continue to provide support to Tunisia, ensuring that this transition continue, even while violence and chaos persist across the region.".
