House Urges Iran to Free U.S. Hostage Levinson

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Feb. 29, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) applauded House passage of H. Res. 148, a bipartisan measure calling on Iran to fulfill their promises of assistance in the case of Robert Levinson, the longest-held hostage in our nation’s history. The legislation, authored by Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL), unanimously passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee last week.

Upon passage, Chairman Royce issued the following statement: “Bob Levinson, a father of seven, remains the longest-held hostage in U.S. history. The administration must do more to bring him home.

“In testimony before the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr. Levinson’s son highlighted the importance of maintaining a public focus on his father’s case. He argued that we need continued action to keep his father’s fate at the forefront. Frankly, it is hard to remember a time when Iran didn’t have U.S. hostages in its prisons.

“We will continue working to bring Mr. Levinson and these other American hostages home.".
