Washington, D.C. - Today, the House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), passed nine measures, including the Combating European Anti-Semitism Act of 2017 (H.R. 672). The bipartisan legislation makes clear that combating anti-Semitism is in the U.S. national interest. The bill also requires increased reporting on anti-Semitic incidents in Europe, collaborative efforts between U.S. and European law enforcement, and efforts to improve security for Jewish communities.
Following the passage of H.R. 672, Chairman Royce said: “Today’s legislation rightly focuses on the rising threats facing Jewish communities across Europe. We know what horrors occurred when the world failed to proactively and forcefully oppose anti-Semitism. Free societies cannot stand by, they must work to put an end to this wave of criminal hate. And this bill reaffirms the U.S. commitment to combating anti-Semitism."
NOTE: The Committee also passed H. Res. 137, which honors the life of Shimon Peres.
