Washington, D.C. - Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
“The fall of the Berlin Wall was a great victory in our long struggle to win the Cold War and a major catalyst for the collapse of the Soviet Union. Millions were released from communism’s iron fist and set free from the dark shadows of the Iron Curtain.
“On this 30th anniversary of the Wall coming down, we are reminded that tyranny is gaining strength as dictators across the globe stifle dissent and restrict freedoms of speech, press, and religion.
“Freedom loving nations must affirm our unwavering resolve to support liberty over oppression on this important anniversary and ensure we call out oppression at every opportunity.".
