Canton, OH - This evening, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Andrew Williams, 28. Williams was wanted by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office for complicity to commit homicide.
Canton Police originally found 32-year-old Joseph Pomeroy, dead on the side of the road near the intersection of Hardington Avenue NE and 12th Street NE in Canton. Jeremy Morlock, 43, Clayton Smart, 24, and Mary Ann Soliday, 34, were all arrested in connection to Pomeroy’s death. The Canton Police Department and Stark County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on May 13 on a residence near the 600 block of Correll Avenue NE in Canton, and officers found a person held hostage in the basement. All three were also charged with one count each of rape, kidnapping and felonious assault in connection with the person held hostage. Morlock was charged with one count of aggravated murder, and Smart, Soliday and Williams were individually charged with one count of complicity to commit aggravated murder.
This evening, members of the NOVFTF and the Canton Police Department arrested Williams at a residence near the 2000 block of Silent Court NW in Canton. Williams was seen looking out a bedroom window upon NOVFTF contact. During the arrest attempt, Williams barricaded himself in a bedroom inside the residence, resulting in the Canton SWAT team being activated to the scene. Williams eventually surrendered to officers and was arrested.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “The city of Canton is safer now that all four of these suspects are locked away from the community. The crimes they are alleged to commit are heinous and required swift law enforcement action."
