Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., released the following statement on the confirmations:
“The D.C. Superior Court is both busy and short-handed, and the confirmation of Judges Demeo and Nash is long overdue. Judge Demeo is well qualified, having worked as a prosecutor, law professor and, for the past two years, as a Magistrate Judge in the Criminal Division of D.C.’s Superior Court. Unfortunately, her confirmation was stalled for 11 long months, even though the very busy court was short five judges.
“Judge Nash’s nomination has been stalled for almost as long, nine months, despite his qualifications and background as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for D.C. and Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice.
“A short-handed court cannot ensure that justice is delivered for all who come before it and today’s vote will go a long way towards ensuring citizens of our nation’s capitol can get the justice they deserve."
