WASHINGTON - Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), made these remarks regarding the recently completed report by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General on the circumstances of two Secret Service employees driving through an ongoing bomb investigation at the White House:
“I am disappointed that there continue to be lapses in judgment by Secret Service personnel. Events such as driving under the influence of alcohol through an ongoing bomb investigation at the White House complex continue to sully the professional work done by 99% of Secret Service employees. The Secret Service has a difficult and demanding mission. The two agents involved in this incident take valuable time and resources away from a mission that cannot fail - protecting the president of the United States. It is my hope that actions are taken to discourage this type of activity and allow the Secret Service to regain its credibility and its once-held status as a preeminent law enforcement agency."
