House Energy and Commerce Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) issued the following statement before President Joe Biden’s expected remarks in Ohio on America’s global competitive edge against China.
“To win the future, we must improve our supply chain security and remove costly regulatory and permitting barriers that are hampering American industries, including our energy sector. Unfortunately, the Biden administration has been dead set on doing the opposite by creating more regulatory barriers and canceling permits for mines and other crucial projects. When the administration abruptly cancels a permit after years of planning and investment, it has chilling impact on American industry and cutting edge innovation. Reversing course and lifting these barriers to our global competitive edge must be a central part of any legislation Congress passes.
“America cannot beat the Chinese Communist Party at its own game of massive spending, expansive government subsidies, and centralized top-down command and control. As the conference committee begins our work, I will continue to advocate for the needed reforms to unleash American innovation and improve our competitiveness and security.”
