Peter Wennink, ASML president and CEO, joined Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves to announce a $200 million expansion of the company’s facility in Wilton, Conn.

The expansion is anticipated to create 1,000 new jobs in the next two years, according to a May 31 Department of Commerce news release. ASML is a Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer.

“Since day one, the Biden administration has pledged to revitalize our domestic manufacturing economy and keep our country safe,” Graves said in the release. “Achieving these goals starts and ends with advanced semiconductors made right here in the United States.”

ASML Wilton has more than 2,000 employees in the company’s largest research and development and manufacturing site for the company in the U.S., the release said. The company has invested $100 million in cleanrooms, labs and offices, where they develop the machine required to create advanced chips.

“Semiconductors power everything from our homes and cars to lifesaving military and medical technology,” Graves said, according to the release. “ASML is a valued member of the coalition of private sector companies from around the globe who are choosing the United States as their home for semiconductors, and for that, we are immensely grateful.”

He said the U.S. must build on the momentum this brings through the passage of the Bipartisan Innovation Act, the release reported.

Wennink said to meet projected demand, ASML is investing in infrastructure and people, according to the release. He called the company’s Wilton office is a good example of that and one of several sites in the U.S. that are fundamental to its success.
