Leader Rodgers Statement on the Decision of OPEC and Russia to Increase Oil Production

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 2. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) released the following statement on the Biden administration welcoming the decision of OPEC and Russia to increase their production of oil, ahead of an expected visit to Saudi Arabia by President Biden.

“The Biden administration praising OPEC+, which includes Russia, is an insult to Americans who are still suffering from record high gas prices. If President Biden were serious about lowering prices for Americans and backing up sanctions on Russia, he would reverse his war on American energy and allow American workers to produce millions of additional barrels of oil per day, rather than relying on foreign dictators to call the shots.

“We need to flip the switch here at home and pass legislation such as the American Energy Independence from Russia Act, which will unleash domestic energy production, build more pipelines, remove restrictions on LNG exports, and restart oil and gas leasing on federal lands and offshore waters."
