The USDA will host an Antimicrobial Resistance Workshop on August 30 that will be open to the public.
In a press release on May 27, the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced that it will host a virtual workshop on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) starting Aug. 30, that will be publicly available and it will serve as an update on what the USDA has learned about AMR since the last workshop on the topic, which was held in 2012.
“The year 2022 marks 10 years since the first USDA Antibiotic Resistance Workshop in 2012 and provides an excellent opportunity for USDA to share successes and challenges with stakeholders and partners,” said USDA Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs, Jenny Lester Moffitt, according to the press release. “We will leverage all of the tools and advances made over the past decade in coordination with our federal partners and stakeholders to develop a new AMR action plan.”
Since its creation, the workshop from 2012 has been the first and only of its kind held by the USDA that utilizes public input within the USDA Antimicrobial Resistance Action Plan, which outlines strategies to deal with antimicrobial resistance. The workshop will be open to the public via Zoom and teleconference, and a preregistered public comment session will be held during the workshop.
