Interior Secretary Deb Haaland tested positive for COVID-19 June 1.

The Department of the Interior announced through a June 1 news release that Haaland last tested negative for COVID-19 May 30, during a visit to the White House. She was not in close contact with the president.

“Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 today,” Haaland said June 1 on Twitter. “I feel fine and am grateful to be fully vaccinated and twice boosted. I hope everyone stays current on their vaccinations so that, if they are exposed, they too will have milder symptoms.”

Haaland cancelled her West Coast travel as soon as she felt symptomatic, according to the news release. Haaland is isolating per Centers for Disease Control guidance while working remotely. The Department of the Interior is performing contact tracing and is notifying those Halland was in close contact with.

According to News3LV, Haaland is quarantining in Nevada and participated in a round table discussion May 31. The meeting was to discuss public land clean energy production.

As of June 1, the CDC reports there have been 747,974,855 COVID-19 vaccine doses distributed and 587,821,662 administered.
