Assistant Secretary Alejandra Castillo Leads U.S. Department of Commerce Delegation to the Summit of the Americas

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo designated Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo to lead the U.S. Department of Commerce delegation to the Organization of American States’ (OAS) Summit of the Americas. The ninth convening of the quadrennial Summit is occurring in Los Angeles from June 6-9, 2022.

“The Summit of the Americas provides an important forum for collaboration to foster hemispheric competitiveness and innovation,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “I’m pleased to help communicate the perspective of the United States on how sustainable economic development can advance a shared vision of Inter-American cooperation.”

Later today, at the Summit of the Americas, Assistant Secretary Castillo will appear on a panel of governmental and non-governmental leaders at the workshop “Lessons of Leadership from Latina America” (4:00 p.m. PT, June 7 at the Mark Taper Auditorium, Los Angeles Central Library) to discuss the future of Latina economic and political advancement in the Western Hemisphere. She will also deliver the keynote address at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce’s “A Path to Resiliency” event (9:00 a.m. PT, June 8 at the City Club LA). This morning, she participated in the Los Angeles mayoral summit “Shared Challenges, Shared Solutions” to share her perspective on social inclusion and methods for leveraging migrant economic contributions.

The Summit of the Americas, the only meeting that brings together the leaders of North, South, and Central America and the Caribbean, will play a central role in shaping the future of the hemisphere. The region’s governments, civil society, and private sector will work to develop a shared vision built around the theme for this year’s meeting, “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future.”
