Murray Statement Following Senate Vote On Lisa Gomez Nomination to Lead Employee Benefits Security Administration

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on June 8. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chair Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement on the Senate vote on the nomination of Lisa Gomez to serve as Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA). The 49-51 result showed there are enough votes to confirm Gomez to the position, and Majority Leader Schumer’s (D-NY) vote against the nomination will allow him to bring it to the floor again for a successful confirmation vote soon.

“I fully support Lisa Gomez’s nomination to lead EBSA, and am confident she’s the right person for the job. The vote today shows that we will ultimately have the votes we need to confirm this highly qualified nominee-and I look forward to getting that done as soon as possible."
