The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking public comments for its Draft Environmental Assessment and Draft Conformity Determination of the Chicago O’Hare International Airport proposed airport terminal area plan and changes to FAA air traffic procedures.
The Draft Environmental Assessment will determine whether the proposed projects have the potential to significantly affect various environmental resources, such as noise, air quality, water resources and historic sites.
The Draft Environmental Assessment analyzes actions proposed by the Chicago Department of Aviation, including: terminal projects, on-airport hotels, airfield and taxiway improvements, and support facilities. The document also evaluates an FAA proposal to make permanent offset (angled) approaches to Runway 10R/28L. The offset approaches allow simultaneous arrivals to three runways and previously approved simultaneous arrivals to four runways in the future.
The Draft Environmental Assessment and Draft General Conformity Determination and details about the proposed projects can be found here. Public comments also can be submitted on this web page. The public comment period begins on June 2 and ends July 18, 2022, at midnight.
In addition, the FAA will host an in-person public workshop on July 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Monty’s Elegant Banquets at 703 S. York Road, Bensenville, Ill.
On July 14, the FAA will host a virtual public workshop via Zoom beginning at 6 p.m. Central Time. Registration for the virtual meeting are available on the FAA web site.
At each workshop, representatives of the FAA and its consultants will provide information about the Draft Environmental Assessment.
