The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces the closure of the Town of Martin, Kentucky Section 202 Flood Risk Management Project voluntary application period on July 29, 2022.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Huntington District assessed the Town of Martin Section 202 Flood Risk Management project voluntary application closing period to determine when best to close the voluntary application period. After carefully considering the amount of time the application period has been opened, the outreach events in the community completed and planned, as well as the number of eligible owner applications received to date; USACE determined that we should close the application period on July 29, 2022.
Closing the application period will allow USACE to better define the number of structures to be floodproofed and acquired to refine our workload, budget, and schedule planning to project completion.
The Town of Martin Non-Structural Flood Damage Reduction Project consists of voluntary floodproofing, relocations, floodplain acquisitions and demolition of structures, authorized under the Section 202 of the Energy and Water Development Appropriation Act of 1981. The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (BBA-18) provided $80 million for flood risk reduction efforts. All properties eligible to apply for this program have been notified
Since the approval of BBA-18 in 2018, USACE has been actively working within the community which allowed eligible landowners opportunities to receive information, ask questions, and make informed decisions concerning the project and their voluntary participation.
