Today, Administrator Power spoke to members of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) at the 2022 Global Impact Forum. Administrator Power was interviewed by USGLC President and CEO Liz Schrayer about development issues related to support for democratic initiatives around the world, global food insecurity, humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and COVID-19.
The Administrator highlighted the importance of cementing progress in democratic bright spots, underscored the catastrophic impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on food security and nutrition around the world, and spoke about the U.S. government’s response to this global crisis. She outlined actions USAID is taking to address the crisis by delivering urgent humanitarian assistance, helping smallholder farmers mitigate fertilizer shortages, and increasing investments in agricultural capacity and resilience through the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative.
Administrator Power also shared that the U.S. has delivered 550 million COVID-19 vaccines globally and stressed the critical need of additional funds to continue global efforts to deliver vaccines and get shots in arms.
