In an effort to create support for quality jobs, the U.S. Department of Labor held a Good Jobs Summit in Washington, D.C.

Labor Secretary Marty Walsh was joined by Energy Secretary Jenifer Granholm, U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., White House Infrastructure Implementation Coordinator Mayor Mitch Landrieu as well as leaders from labor unions, organizations and federal, state and local government, according to a June 21 news release. Walsh noted the Biden administration is coming together in its efforts to help Americans find good jobs.

“I have seen it in my own life and throughout my career: good jobs change lives and lift up whole families," Walsh said in the news release. “We have the opportunity right now to lift up more people than ever before.”

Walsh also noted the summit can result in partnerships necessary to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure and address a number of challenges in labor, from climate change and global competition to health, gender equity and racial justice, according to the release.

Scott, who serves as chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, noted the Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is fueling the creation of millions of good paying jobs, the release reported.

According to the release, Scott also noted that as the jobs are created, “we must ensure that workers can gain the in-demand skills needed to qualify for those good jobs.”
