Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves said the U.S.-Ghana Business Forum aimed to deepen diplomatic and commercial partnerships between Ghana and the U.S.

The forum was held for the U.S. to help with the successful implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Graves said, according to a June 16 news release.

“We share a common vision for a prosperous future that will result in a more equitable and accessible global economy,” Graves said in the release. “As you can see from the turnout of American companies and my U.S. government counterparts today, we stand ready to increase trade between the U.S. and Ghana to realize this goal.”

The U.S. delegation included a team from the Department of Commerce, the U.S. Embassy in Accra, representatives from other federal agencies and 20 executives of American companies who joined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s West Africa Business Mission, the release reported.

Graves said he was reinforcing a message from President Joe Biden that the U.S. is committed to being a long-term, stable partner in Ghana’s economic development, according to the release.

“Through this partnership, we aim to expand trade and investment between the U.S. and Ghana while creating jobs and sustainable growth in both countries,” he said, according to the release. “We are taking steps to achieve this mission at the highest possible levels.”
