The State Department announced the award of federal grants to 65 U.S. citizen diplomats and 33 international partners through the Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund to implement public service projects that seek to address and break down global issues.
All the winners are alumni of U.S. government exchange programs, according to a June 28 release.
“The 2022 winning projects include those focused on breaking down cultural barriers, addressing the root causes of human trafficking, supporting sustainable development efforts, empowering women leaders from rural communities and more,” according to the release.
The 2022 winners have six months to implement their projects and have all grant-funded projects and activities completed by December 2022, the release reported.
This year’s teams submitted public service project proposals addressing “environmental protection, strengthening democratic institutions, fostering alumni networks, increasing outreach to underserved communities and building community through arts, sports, language and technology,” according to the release.
The Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund has been implemented through a partnership with the U.S Department of State and Global Ties U.S., the release reported.
Since 2019 there have been 189 teams and the Citizen Diplomacy Action Fund has granted more than $1.5 million for their projects since this time, according to the release. A full list of this year’s winners can be found online.
