House Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Republican Leader Morgan Griffith (R-VA) invited Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to testify before the Committee during a hearing on Medicare Advantage (MA).
In their letter sent Wednesday to Administrator Brooks-LaSure, the members state how important it is for her to testify, since her agency, CMS, is the one that oversees the Medicare Advantage program.
LETTER EXCERPT: “The Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is holding a hearing on June 28, 2022, to conduct oversight of the Medicare Advantage program. MedPAC, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General (HHS OIG), and the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) have been invited to testify before the Subcommittee. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) oversees the Medicare Advantage (MA) program. Therefore, it is important that you appear before the Subcommittee at the June 28, 2022, Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing to provide CMS’ expertise in the operations of the MA program.
“The MA program is an important option for Medicare beneficiaries and has proven popular given the increasing number of enrollees. It is important, however, to conduct oversight of the program to ensure the MA program is operating as intended. As the federal agency that administers the Medicare program, CMS is best positioned to speak to the details and operations of the MA program, including benefits and challenges for those who are enrolled in MA, as well as the oversight that CMS conducts of the program. Moreover, appearing before the Subcommittee will give CMS the opportunity to respond to studies and reports issued about the MA program by MedPAC, HHS OIG, and GAO. Therefore, we formally invite you to testify at the Subcommittee’s June 28, 2022, hearing. Please confirm your attendance as soon as possible, but no later than June 24, 2022.”
