FEMA Celebrates PRIDE All Month Long

This June, FEMA celebrated its LGBTQIA workforce and PRIDE all month long with several special events, including displaying an inclusive rainbow flag at FEMA National Response Coordination Center for the second time in the agency’s history. Similar displays were made at FEMA's 10 regional headquarters across the country.

“FEMA is always proud to join the nation in celebrating PRIDE month and the incredible contributions our LGBTQIA community brings to the agency’s mission and our country,” said FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell. “This year, I was honored to partner with our PRIDE employee resource group to reinforce our agency’s commitment to becoming a more diverse agency that embraces the humanity, dignity and worth of those we serve before, during and after disasters.”

FEMA Regional Offices also showed their PRIDE on June 1, with leadership and staff from all 10 FEMA regions sharing messages about PRIDE month and the importance of diversity and inclusion. The video also featured a special message from Administrator Criswell.

In commemoration of PRIDE month, inclusive rainbow flags were on full display at every FEMA regional office headquarters across the country. PRIDE flags were also on display at FEMA’s National Response Coordination Center, Emergency Management Institute and Center for Domestic Preparedness. Additionally, FEMA’s PRIDE employee resource group hosted workforce events and forums throughout the month and developed the fourth annual Faces of FEMA videos featuring LGBTQIA FEMA staff and allies.
