The Savannah River Site’s Environmental Monitoring Program is guiding the nationally applied nuclear industry standard, a recent news release from the Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Environmental Management said.
“Both DOE Savannah River Operations Office and SRNS place a strong emphasis and high priority on efficient and effective environmental monitoring programs for both radiological and chemical constituents," Teresa Eddy, manager of the environmental monitoring program for SRS contractor Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SNRS), said in the release. “We also believe it’s important to share the proven methods and technology used and continually strive to perfect."
Eddy went on to talk about how collaborations with outside organizations will help keep people safe.
“Working with other organizations that are using nuclear materials ensures a safe collective impact on the environment and community,” she said. “Radiological environmental monitoring programs and the ANS standard will secure continued success towards meeting and exceeding our goals here and potentially throughout the nation.”
The DOE took to social media to tout the program's success.
"A group of industry professionals are using the success of the Savannah River Site’s Environmental Monitoring Program as the framework for a new nationally applied nuclear industry standard!" the Environmental Management office said in a recent Twitter post.
