Today, Administrator Samantha Power spoke with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The Administrator congratulated the Prime Minister on the success of the recent international recovery conference. They discussed ways in which Ukraine can harness the private sector to help meet essential needs and leverage finite resources to maximize the impact of international support as they develop recovery plans.
The Administrator stressed the importance of continuing to advance anti-corruption reforms and prioritizing transparency and accountability as guiding principles in all assistance for recovery and reconstruction. Administrator Power and Prime Minister Shmyhal discussed the importance of maximum inclusion in both planning and implementation of all recovery and reconstruction efforts to best address the needs of the local communities and the Ukrainian people.
The Administrator and the Prime Minister also discussed USAID’s ongoing efforts to support the Ukrainian private sector in the wake of Russia’s brutal full-scale invasion, including assisting businesses to relocate away from the frontlines, maintain employment, assist those displaced from their homes, and support Ukrainian farmers to deliver this year’s harvest despite the devastation caused by Putin’s war.
