Fort Myers, Florida - United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announces the filing of a criminal complaint charging Charles Allen Nave III (38, Fort Myers) with distribution of child pornography. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 31, 2013, Charles Allen Nave, III sent child pornography over the Internet to an undercover agent located in Washington, D.C. Subsequent to the execution of a search warrant, on April 23, 2013, Nave was found to be in possession of more than 100 images of child pornography.
A criminal complaint is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.
This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Yolande G. Viacava.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
