Brian L. Cayce, 45, of Murphysboro, Illinois, pled guilty today in United States District Court in Benton to an indictment charging him with distributing heroin, announced Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois. The indictment, returned by a Federal Grand Jury on November 6, 2012, alleged that Cayce distributed 1.9 grams of heroin on Sept. 18, 2012, to an agent of the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force who was working undercover.
Cayce faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment, a $1 million fine, and a term of 3 years to life on supervised release to follow his incarceration.
Cayce has been held without bond in the custody of the United States Marshal since his arrest on the federal charges. He was returned to the Marshal’s custody to await sentencing which was set for Oct. 3, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the United States District Courthouse in Benton.
The case was investigated by the Carmi office of the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force with the assistance of the United States Drug Enforcement Administration.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin.
