United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that Michael Partain, 44, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha for distributing child pornography. The Honorable Lyle E. Strom, Senior District Court Judge, sentenced Partain to seven years in prison. There is no parole in the federal system. After his release from prison Partain will be on supervised release for five years and will be required to register as a sex offender.
On two separate occasions Partain distributed child pornography videos to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation acting in an undercover capacity. Some of these videos involved victims under five years of age.
On Aug. 29, 2012, agents assigned to the Omaha FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant at Partain’s residence. The agents recovered 109 files of child pornography. Twenty-seven videos involved a victim under the age of five. Sixty-one videos involved victims between the ages of six and ten.
The case was investigated by the Omaha Cyber Crimes Task Force and was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys= Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
