Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty To Possessing Firearm Stolen From Rural King Break In

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys on May 12, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced that Michael J. Khoury, 43, of Cahokia, Illinois, pled guilty today in the United States District Court to one count of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Evidence showed that on Jan. 19, 2015, Khoury and another individual broke in to Rural King, located at 2801 North Illinois, Swansea, Illinois, and stole over fifteen firearms. Khoury later sold one of the stolen firearms to a confidential informant, who provided that weapon to law enforcement. The serial number of that firearm matched the serial number of one of the firearms taken in the burglary.

Sentencing has been scheduled for Aug. 21, 2015, in front of the Honorable David R. Herndon. Due to Khoury’s criminal history, he is eligible for sentencing as an Armed Career Criminal, thus he faces a minimum sentence of fifteen years in the Bureau of Prisons.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Swansea Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Laura Reppert.
