Brevard County Man Sentenced For Receiving And Possessing Child Pornography

Orlando, Florida - U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton, Jr. has sentenced Billie Jay Rufrano (31, Titusville) to 10 years and 1 month in federal prison for receiving and possessing child pornography. He was also ordered to pay restitution to two victims.

Rufrano was indicted on Jan. 14, 2015, and he pleaded guilty on April 28, 2015.

According to court documents, on Oct. 3, 2014, a state search warrant was executed at Rufrano’s residence and several computers were seized. Forensic analyses of the computer media subsequently revealed 223 movies and 114 images depicting child pornography.

This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilianys Rivera Miranda.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
