Honduran National Pleads Guilty to Illegally Reentry

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced that CARLOS ALBERTO RIVERA-MELENDEZ, age 39, a citizen of Honduras, pled guilty today to a one-count Bill of Information for illegal reentry of removed alien.

According to the Indictment, on or about Aug. 10, 2015, RIVERA-MELENDEZ was found in the United States after having been officially deported and removed on or about Jan. 16, 2009.

RIVERA-MELENDEZ faces a maximum term of imprisonment of two years and a fine of $250,000, one year supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment. U.S. District Judge Lance M. Africk set sentencing for Dec. 10, 2015.

U.S. Attorney Polite praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Irene González is in charge of the prosecution.
