Mexican National Pleads Guilty to Violation of the Federal Gun Control Act

U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced that JUAN ALBERTO SANCHEZ-ROMERO, age 25, a citizen of Mexico, pled guilty today to a one-count Bill of Information for violations of the Federal Gun Control Act.

According to the court documents, on or about Aug. 20, 2015, SANCHEZ-ROMERO, an alien present illegally in the United States, was found in possession of a firearm.

SANCHEZ-ROMERO faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten years, a fine of $250,000, three years supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment. U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown set sentencing for Feb. 11, 2016.

U.S. Attorney Polite praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Irene González is in charge of the prosecution.
