Philadelphia Man Charged In Pizzeria Robberies

PHILADELPHIA - George Smith, 26, of Philadelphia, PA, was charged today by Indictment with Hobbs Act robberies and attempted Hobbs Act robbery, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger.

According to the indictment, on Aug. 20, 2015, Smith robbed the Pizza Hut restaurant at 2916 N. Broad Street, in Philadelphia and, a day later, robbed the Domino’s Pizza at 2628 N. Broad Street. It is further alleged that on Aug. 24, 2015, Smith robbed the 7-Eleven at 2042 N. Broad Street. If convicted of all charges, Smith defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 60 years in prison, a fine, up to three years of supervised release, a $300 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Arlene Fisk.

An Indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
