The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys on March 22, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

United States Attorney Randolph J. Seiler announced that a Fort Thompson, South Dakota, man convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender was sentenced on March 21, 2016, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.

Lorenzo Francis Obago, age 58, was sentenced to 24 months in custody, 5 years of supervised release, and $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Obago was indicted for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender by a federal grand jury on Oct. 14, 2015. He pled guilty on Dec. 13, 2015.

On Nov. 16, 1994, Obago was convicted and sentenced in Day County of Sexual Contact with a Child under 16. Between June 26, 2015, and Oct. 14, 2015, Obago, a person required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, and a sex offender by reason of a conviction under Federal Law, failed to properly register as a sex offender in Buffalo County.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges prosecuted the case.

Obago was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
