SHREVEPORT, La. - United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced today that a Ringgold man was sentenced to 36 months in prison for possessing a pistol after being convicted of a felony.
Jason Edward Myers, 42, of Ringgold, La., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote on one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and must forfeit the weapon seized during the investigation. According to the Aug. 17, 2016 guilty plea, law enforcement agents learned that Myers planned to sell drugs and a pistol to someone in Ringgold. An undercover operation was conducted, and law enforcement agents observed Myers on Dec. 11, 2015 selling a Ruger, Model LCP.380 caliber pistol at Layfield Road in Ringgold. After his arrest, he admitted to being a convicted felon.
This investigation and prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which is a Department of Justice initiative to promote firearm safety and to reduce firearm crimes by preventing the possession and use of firearms by dangerous and persistent felons and others not authorized to possess a firearm.
The ATF and Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tennille M. Gilreath prosecuted the case.
