How politicians on Transportation and Infrastructure Committee dealt with bills on July 21

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee handled H.R.8449 bill on July 21, according to the US Congress.

Bill H.R.8449 titled “To establish and maintain a coordinated program within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that improves wildfire, fire weather, fire risk, and smoke related forecasting, detection, modeling, observations, and service delivery, and to address growing needs in the wildland-urban interface, and for other purposes” was referred to the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment by the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Kim Schrier.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee moves forward in some way on two bills per day, taking one action on average per day.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
