MADISON, WIS. -- Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jacob F. Medina, 33, Madison, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge William Conley to 150 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography. This prison term will be followed by a 20-year period of supervised release. Medina pleaded guilty to this offense on March 16, 2017.
On April 15, 2016, officers spoke to Medina as part of a related investigation. During that conversation, Medina turned his phone over to the police. A Madison Police Department Detective analyzed the phone and found numerous images of a 15-year-old girl engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The 15-year-old victim told police that Medina was her “pimp" and that he gave her marijuana and alcohol.
Medina posted the explicit pictures of the victim on KIK and offered additional pictures for sale. He also attempted to set up a raffle with the winner having the opportunity to have sexual contact with the victim.
In sentencing Medina, Judge Conley said that the defendant minimized his conduct, put the blame on the victim, and was a danger to the community.
The charge against Medina was the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
