Ocala, Florida - Senior United States District Judge James D. Whittemore today sentenced Albert Larry Harris, Jr. (27, Lake County) to 24 months in federal prison for accepting a bribe as a public official. He pleaded guilty on Nov. 15, 2017.
According to the plea agreement, Harris worked as a Correctional Officer at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex. In June 2017, he began providing inmates at the prison with contraband (drugs and tobacco products) in exchange for large cash payments. On Aug. 22, 2017, Harris met with an undercover agent in Ocala and accepted a $5,000 bribe and 200 Suboxone strips for delivery to a federal inmate. Following the exchange, Harris was arrested.
This case was investigated by the Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General (DOJ OIG), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert E. Bodnar, Jr.
