Hattiesburg Man Plead Guilty to Illegally Possessing Firearm

Gulfport, Miss. - Cory Demond Ward, 31, of Hattiesburg, entered a guilty plea today before U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett to possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst announced.

Ward admitted he sold a.38 caliber Colt revolver to a confidential informant for $125 on Oct. 21, 2017. Ward had previously been convicted of burglary of a dwelling in the Circuit Court of Lamar County.

Ward faces a potential sentence of 10 years, a $250,000 and 3 years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett has set sentencing for Aug. 21, 2018, at 10:45 a.m.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case is prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams.
