MADISON, WIS. -- Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Luis Alberto Torres-Diaz, 31, a citizen of Mexico found in Janesville, Wis., was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge James Peterson to five months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. Torres-Diaz, who had been deported from the United States on two previous occasions, pleaded guilty to this charge on March 29, 2018.

Torres-Diaz had been convicted of illegal entry into the United States in Texas in 2007. Following his deportation in 2007, Torres-Diaz returned to the United States and was convicted of terroristic threats in Texas in 2012. Following another deportation, Torres-Diaz returned to the United States again, and was arrested and convicted for operating while intoxicated in Janesville last year.

The charge against Torres-Diaz was the result of an investigation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Wegner.
