MADISON, WIS. - Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Brendon Linus-Brown, 22, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson, to 42 months in federal prison for possessing two firearms as a convicted felon. Linus-Brown pleaded guilty to this charge on Aug. 3, 2018. His prison term will be followed by a three-year period of supervised release.
Linus-Brown was arrested in possession of the firearms on May 1, 2018, after it had been reported to police that he stole one of the firearms. Linus-Brown is prohibited from possessing firearms because he has two felony convictions for robbery from Illinois.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Peterson noted that Linus-Brown’s criminal history suggested violence, that this was not his first weapons offense, and found that he posed a danger to the community.
This case has been brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the U.S. Justice Department’s program to reduce violent crime. The PSN approach involves collaboration by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and communities to prevent and deter gun violence.
The charge against Linus-Brown was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Sun Prairie Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
