NEW ORLEANS - U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser announced that GARRETT STEPHENS, age 36, of LaPlace, was sentenced on Nov. 13, 2019 for one count of conspiracy to distribute 5 grams or more of methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. §§ 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(A), and 846, and one count of possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1)(A)(i). STEPHENS pled guilty on April 3, 2019 to the above-described offenses.
Judge Martin L.C. Feldman sentenced STEPHENS to a total of 211 months of imprisonment followed by 4 years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Strasser praised the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorneys Jonathan L. Shih and Nicholas D. Moses are in charge of the prosecution.
This prosecution is part of an extensive investigation by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (“OCDETF"). OCDETF is a joint federal, state and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking and is the nation’s primary tool for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations, targeting national and regional level drug trafficking organizations and coordinating the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to disrupt or dismantle the targeted criminal organization and seize their assets.
