Buffalo Man Fails To Stop For Inspection, Speeds Through Lewiston Border Crossing

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys on Feb. 7, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Raison Holt, 25, of Buffalo, NY, with high speed flight from border checkpoint, and failure to present vehicle for inspection. The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan A. Tokash, who is handling the case, stated that according to the indictment, on Jan. 20, 2020, the defendant intentionally fled the checkpoint at the Lewiston Queenston Bridge, in Lewiston, NY, in excess of the legal speed limit. In doing so, Holt failed to report the arrival and present said vehicle, and any person and merchandise on board, for inspection to a Customs and Border Protection officer. CBP Officers subsequently pursued Holt and apprehended him.

The defendant will be arraigned at a later date.

The indictment is the result of an investigation by Customs and Border Protection, under the direction of Rose Brophy, Director of Field Operations.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. #
